Sometimes something is so good you just want to do it again…Cool waters, fast currents, and rock ledges create the perfect family adventure on the Hiwassee River. As a Tennessee State Scenic River, the Hiwassee is simply beautiful with cascading currents that can be enjoyed by all. It begins on a high ridge near the Appalachian Trail in North Georgia and meanders through the Georgia and North Carolina countryside before entering Tennessee where the adventure begins. The scenic setting and crystal clear waters make the Hiwassee River one of the crown jewels of Tennessee.
The 5 mile Hiwassee Adventure starts at the Appalachian Power House and flows West down one of the most scenic rivers in the East. For our adventure, we will be rafting along age-appropriate Class 0/1 currents with no whitewater, but still provides an exciting and fun ride for 90/120 minutes. Minimum age to raft is 5 years old.
Arriving on Saturday, September 7th afternoon at 1pm to set up camp and have a quick bite to eat, we will leave for our rafts at 3:30pm. Returning to our campsite about 7:30, we’ll have dinner and campfire before turning in for the night. In the morning, we will have breakfast, and then pack up and return home. Keeping it short and sweet, but packed full of fun.
Suggestions:
We’ll only provide a basic brown bag lunch, so if dinner at 7:30 is a stretch, make sure you have a bigger lunch before arriving at the campsite.
Make sure to wear clothes you can get splashed (or wet if you plan on falling in) on the rafting trip, bring towels, and expect to change when you return.
If you want to take photographs during rafting, make sure your camera or phone is water-resistant at least. The journey is beautiful, and we’re not expecting any dramatic capsizings on the smooth river, but it is water after all.
